The first step is to register a domain name (the name of your website or company), for example
www.mycompany.com. With the web hosting company that I use you can have 1 domain name registered for free. All you need to do is decide what name you prefer to use and I will do a search for what is available. Once the name is finally agreed with yourself, it is registered in your own name. That ensures that you own your website address (also known as the URL) and I, as site designer, don't. If you have an existing website, I can transfer it to my hosting company; again the first transfer will be free, but if you wish to transfer more than one URL, each further site will cost €6.25 to transfer.

NOTE: Your domain name must have been registered for a minimum of 60 days with it's original registrar in order for it to be legally transferred to another hosting company.

Next you need a web host (server). This is the company that powers your website in order for it to be seen worldwide. Please be very careful when choosing someone for web hosting and design. The web hosting package MUST be paid for by yourself and no-one else, to ensure that you are the legal owner. Otherwise, should there be a parting of the ways in the future, the entire website could disappear at the touch of a button with no come back on your part whatsoever. If you have legal ownership, all you have to do is change the password and no-one else can enter, edit or delete your site. I provide all clients with their username and password as soon as their site is published to the Internet, ensuring full control at all times.
